#33 Autumn Colors
Riding my bike this morning, I couldn’t help but notice the edges of the trees turning their beautiful fall colors, orange, yellow, and that spectacular red! It’s as if the sky becomes ablaze with color this time of year. There are so many lessons one can glean from the gorgeous fall colors. It’s amazing that from the death of a leaf comes beauty.
At this time of year, as I meander through this vivid display, I recall just how as the leaves of the trees wither and die in the autumn, our lives sometimes have their trials. At times they may seem to make no sense at all, and we can feel as if life’s trials are causing us to wither emotionally. If, however, we are close to God, those trials can produce beauty, just as the fall colors are an awesome display of God’s design. Sometimes, we have to frequently come before God during these trials and ask Him to open our eyes to the joy, the resultant beauty that God promises below.
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into various trials; knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” ~ James 1:2-4
Entire, wanting nothing! That’s a pretty spectacular promise!
So, my sisters, remember the next time your eyes happen upon these beautiful fall colors, remember one of the lessons God designed through it to bring us comfort. For that I am very thankful! 🙂
Each week, I join in with hundreds of other bloggers to add to my list of One Thousand Gifts. Ann Voskamp, who started the Gratitude Community, has recently written a book called One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are. Please, if you can, get your hands on your own copy of this book. Ann offers much food for thought in this beautifully written book.
