Superbowl 2014 ~ I have nothing against upbeat music or sports per se, yet as a Christian, I can’t close my eyes to what’s happening in our country or for that matter around the world. The situation I’m speaking of is human trafficking. “What does music and sports have to do with human trafficking? you might ask.
I’ve often read Proverbs and Psalms and have noticed the words ‘traps’ and ‘snares’ quite often. Solomon and David seem to be insinuating that someone or a group of people were out to get them, trip them up, and those who did had clear-cut strategies. Like the land mines of war, Satan sets traps out for us and/or our families that I think should be at least considered. Oftentimes, I believe, we close our eyes to the dangerous realities of our entertainment industry, because life is just too tough and we just “wanna have fun” and forget the stresses of life; but if we’re not aware of the dangers, we can get caught in the web. Yes, sometimes in our efforts to “get away from it all” and the “rush of the thrill,” we could put ourselves in a dangerous position.
As Christian women, wives, and mothers, we need to consider that the biggest money makers are going to involve some kind of trap(s) that will utilize what God speaks of involving the “lusts of the eyes, lust of the flesh, the pride of life.” These are all characteristics of Satan himself.
“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world.” ~ 1 John 2:16
It’s no different than it has been for thousands of years. In every civilization, there were those who would try to steal your money, your hearts, and/or your time for the benefit of filling their own pocketbooks and do not care how much moral danger they can put you, your family, our nation in. God warns us to guard our hearts and minds, and in some cases, our own bodies from worldly traps. God means business. Serious business!
God tells us to “Come out of her my people.” (Revelation 18:4) Sometimes, that may make us feel as if God is taking away all our “fun.” In actuality, though, God is warning us for our own protection or for our children’s protection. The world is getting more and more deviant and dangerous morally and physically. We warn our children to not get too close to the stove when it’s on when they are young and innocent. “Don’t get too close to the fire!” we might yell. God gives us that same warning, but wants us to always be mindful and to always be diligent, because our adversary “walks about as a roaring lion(ness?)”, seeking whom he might devour. (I Peter 5:8) He wants to devour us. Will we allow him to and even pay him to do it?
Have you noticed the last decade, the Superbowl halftime entertainment has turned up the heat sexually? Not only has a participant lost her clothing by accident(?) in gyrations, but the backgrounds have been very Satanic or utilized the stage of ancient gods and goddesses. To see Madonna’s halftime show see here.
Last year Beyonce performed a Satanic ritual at halftime. To see Beyonce’s perfomance, click here.
Satan gets a thrill out of seeing a repeat of the background of ancient Roman festivals of the gods and goddesses at tourist coliseums and events.
These avenues of entertainment are not by accident. It would be almost impossible to not notice the sexual overtone of the Superbowl commercials, subliminal as well as obvious sexual content, preparing your mind, catering to “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.” Power, sex, and beauty. It’s all about catering to our human nature for monetary gain without thought of the ramifications.
Last year, according to the patrol officers at the Superbowl, 18,000 prostitutes (human trafficking) were employed to its grounds and surrounding area. This year, officials are already gearing up for the biggest challenge yet. Not only do we find teenagers caught in this trap of human sex trafficking but young children. Young homeless teens and stolen preteens are used in this manner, where they have nowhere else to turn, taken advantage of. Many are beaten by their “Johns” and tortured if they don’t meet their quota of men per day. Not only should we be concerned about the environment, but also for those who are kept in “slavery,” i.e., human trafficking.
“In early 2011 the Texas Attorney General shocked the public by announcing that the Super Bowl is the single largest human trafficking incident in the United States. As tourism increases in the cities where the Super Bowl is held so does sex tourism. Traffickers travel to large public sporting events across the country to sell young women and girls in the lucrative sex industry. By advertising online ahead of time, the traffickers are able to let potential buyers know the location and time that the girls and women will be available for sex.”
This situation was not much different in ancient Rome. We had gladiators, man against man, man against animal, Olympic games where prostitutes were dispensed throughout the crowds in the same manner, and brothels surrounded the coliseums as well. Yes, this was a popular attraction to the men who attended their gala events at its peak of glory, that is — right before its fall. For more information on how ancient Rome utilized commercial advertisement during their games, please see here.
“In Ancient Rome prostitution was legal and licensed. Some large brothels in the 4th century, when Rome was becoming officially Christianized, seem to have been counted as tourist attractions and were possibly even state-owned.”1
The famous buried city of Pompeii, the “land frozen in time,” was one of those tourist attractions where the wealthy and prominent men or women could go for any pleasure with man, women, or animal they desired. Painted wall murals depicted the city’s main attraction – sports and sexual perversion. Yet, it also testified of God’s wrath on depravity, buried beneath 20 feet of pyroclastic ash from Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79. To see art, murals and statues depicting such, please see here.
You might say “But prostitution would never be legal here in America, would it?” Recently I heard that Canada is rethinking its anti-prostitution laws and could possibly overturn its laws on legalizing prostitution and brothels. 2 They have succumbed to the cultural political correctness. If they are tolerant of homosexual marriage, why not satisfy man’s “innate needs” they say. The public demands it. “It provides for the needs of men, which makes for a better functioning society,” I heard last week on a popular news-radio program.
“We’ve now had confirmed that it’s OK to buy and sell women and girls in this country,” Kim Pate, executive director of the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies, told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. 2
I do believe Americans are not far behind. Then what will it be like at our sports events?
Yes, our nation is in continuous decline. We need to be careful we as Christians do not place ourselves in a position of temptation, the traps and snares Satan lays out for us. I particularly don’t usually speak out of the deprivation of our society, but I this was weighing on my mind lately and wanted to set this before you to help you to perhaps rethink your position on your viewing habits and help you be aware that we have a growing concern for the safety of our youth. Could there be spiritual consequences to our choices of entertainment and what might they be? Remember spirituality starts in the heart and the mind. Christ came to magnify the law, not to do away with it. Even lusting after a woman is adultery according to Christ.
Our young men and women are watching us. What are we watching? What games are we playing? What tune are they dancing to? Those are the questions we need to be asking. Our job as mothers is to “guard” our children’s hearts, raise them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, help them to know where the snares lay and avoid them. Solomon warns us of those traps. Be aware of what your children are watching, listening to, partaking on the net. Guard their hearts. Guard your own.
It was prophesied to happen right before Christ’s return. The world will be full of “the lust of the flesh, the pride, of life,” etc., and “the selling of souls,” i.e., human trafficking. It will worldwide even more so than now. Will it be licensed worldwide? What does the Bible say:
“The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all citron wood, and all manner of vessels of ivory, and all manner of vessels of most precious wood, and of bronze, and iron, and marble, and cinnamon, and odors, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.” Revelation 18:12-13
The time is getting closer my sisters. We need to set our hearts aright. It won’t be long now. For more information on the prophecies of Revelation, click here.
There is a song, “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.” I say “Let there be morality on earth, and let it begin with us.”
